History comes rolling in as more than 180 classic cars and trucks roll in to the festival for the Sale Auto Mall Annual Open Car Show. Hosted by Carolina Classic Cruisers and the BBQ Fest on the Neuse, the show is a rolling history lesson for all to experience! Proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House.

WRNS DJ Chase Adams 

9:30 a.m. • Location: Herritage Street Stage   

At the early age of 6 Chase first picked up microphone and guitar and started recording on cassette tapes. That’s when he knew music is where he needed to be. At the age of 10 he had gotten his first DJ mixer and fell in love with the art of mixing and hasn’t stopped Dj’ing since. Chase enjoys hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family. He also loves going out to different area bars and restaurants with his friends while watching sports and enjoying great food and drinks. Chase loves singing, especially doing karaoke as well as being in the studio recording new music.

Kinston’s own, Kristy Woodson Harvey, will be under the celebrity tent at the Farmers Market from 10 until 1. Kristy will be signing pre-release copies of her latest novel, The Southern Side Of Paradise. This will be the final book in her Peachtree Road series. They will make great gifts for friends for all occasions.

Just look for the boat and you will find the Vendor Market on Gordon, Mitchell, North and Herritage Streets and in the park.

Best of the Best Tasting

You asked for it, and we’ve got it! Each year requests are made to sample the winning teams’ cooked pork. This year, you can! Pitmasters and champion cooks will open up their grills for tasting the Best of the Best BBQ in Eastern Carolina! Wristbands 
will be on sale beginning at 10:30 am at the corner of Caswell & Herritage Streets.  After the judging of each of the former champion’s hogs is finished the tasting will begin.  

Best of the Best wristbands cost $15. You can purchase a tasting wristband at the Best of the Best tent on Caswell Street.

We are excited to welcome back Southern Sugar Bakery to the festival. If you enjoyed seeing the ladies from Southern Sugar Bakery on the Today Show, come meet them in person at the festival! Their specialties are custom decorated sugar cookies and custom cookie cakes. Each cookie is a work of art….and good doesn’t begin to describe them. Angie and Christin will be doing special cookie decorating demos at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Farmers Market.

Fred, an award winning author will tempt our palates with samples of sides and will entertain you with stories of all kinds. Mitchell Street Pottery Raku Demonstration

SmArt Kinston artist Jacob Herrmann and partner Heather McLelland will be demonstrating the American Raku technique of post firing reduction cooled pottery. This demonstration will take place outside behind the studio and is free and open to the public.

“Plein Air Paint Out”

Plein Air Paint Out is an annual event sponsored by the Community Council for the Arts. 

This is an official event of the BBQ Festival on the Neuse. Plein Air Paint Out allows artists to participate in a juried exhibition and show. Artists paint Wednesday, May 1 beginning at 9 a.m. until Saturday, May 4. Artists’ works must be submitted on Saturday, May 4, at the Kinston Arts Council for judging by a nationally-known plein air artist. The Jurors’ Awards ceremony is Saturday, May 4, at the Kinston Arts Council. The awards ceremony, reception and wet paint sale is open to the public.

Located within Pearson Park along the Riverwalk path, StoryWalk promotes family engagement and physical movement with a primary focus on young children developing literacy skills that will future enhance their school success. Start at the playground.

FREE parking and shuttle Saturday from Vernon Park Mall (834 Hardee Rd) to BBQ Fest. 

Drop offs will be at corner of Blount St. & Mitchell St.
Pickup will be at corner of Herritage St. & Blount St.

Shuttle will leave from four locations at the mall from 8:30a.m.- 7:30p.m. Folding strollers are welcome. 

Festival parking and shuttles 
The festival area and streets are closed to vehicles and parking. Parking is in the former J.C. Penney parking lot at Vernon Park Mall. Shuttles will pick up visitors every 15 minutes.   

Queen Street Methodist Church 

8 a.m.-4 p.m. • Location: 500 N. Queen Street $5 for parking 

Queen Street Methodist Church will host 15 minute tours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. 

Children accompanied by a parent are invited to the church's fellowship hall for fun activities. 
Kinston Community Health Center will offer a Baby Changing Station and handicap bathrooms on Saturday, May 4.
